ArrowCreek Country Club is a two-course complex in Reno with some of the biggest old names in golf behind it. Arnold Palmer designed The Legend Course and Fuzzy Zoeller is one of the men behind The Challenge Course. Both Legend and Challenge feature forced carries galore, gnarly tall grasses that sway in the Nevada breeze and fast greens with more swerve than a racing motorcycle.
ArrowCreek Membership Director Drew Yardley says the greens "run a very true 11 to 11 1/2" on the Stimpmeter. You'll just know that you will have the chance to sink long putts if you do your due dilegence on the reads.
Of course, chances are, you'll be caught up in the views. ArrowCreek lets you look down on the city of Reno and its downtown casinos on several holes. No. 14 on The Challenge Course is particularly memorable. Here, you can look across the twisting fairway (you're playing a tough dogleg) and look at the top of casinos like the Peppermill at eye level.
Initial plans called for ArrowCreek to be a completely private membership-only facility. But the club opened itself to limited outside play through golf packagers and some casino plans. Still, it carries the feel, look and facilities of a high-end country club with big plush locker rooms.
